Welding Headwear FAQs — Styles, Fit and Options

What makes these welding headwear styles different?

Every style is handcrafted for comfort, but each is designed for a different way of working.

  • Traditional Welding Cap — Best for shorter hair and classic welding use.
  • Hair Bag® Do Rag — Best for long hair that needs to be fully contained.
  • Nomex® Versions — Choose these when flame-resistant protection is required.

Traditional Welding Cap

  • Smooth round crown for comfort under a welding helmet
  • Real sizes (M–2XL)
  • Moisture-wicking terry band helps keep sweat out of your eyes
  • Traditional bill can be removed upon request

Hair Bag® Do Rag

  • Traditional do rag design with a built-in pocket that fully contains long hair
  • Hat-like fit with both elastic and ties for a secure, comfortable fit
  • Three real sizes
  • Absorbent terry band for all-day comfort

Nomex Headwear

  • Available in both Welding Cap and Hair Bag® styles
  • Made from flame-resistant Nomex® fabric for work environments that require it
  • Same comfortable fit and sizing as the standard versions

What size should I choose?

Welding headwear is available in different size ranges depending on the style you choose.

Choose the size closest to your head measurement for the best fit. Both Welding Caps and Hair Bag® Do Rags are offered in real sizes for a more comfortable fit. If you’re between sizes or want extra room for long hair, going up a size is often the best choice. Nomex® versions follow the same sizing as their corresponding Welding Cap or Hair Bag® style.

Traditional Welding Caps

  • M: 22″ (labeled 22)
  • L: 23″ (labeled 23)
  • XL: 24″ (labeled 24)
  • 2XL: 25″ (labeled 25)

Designed with a smooth round crown for a comfortable fit under a welding hood.

Hair Bag® Do Rags

  • Small: fits approx. 20″–21″ (labeled 20)
  • Regular: fits approx. 22″–23″ (labeled 22)
  • Big: fits approx. 24″–25″ (labeled 24)

Do these fit under a welding hood?

Yes. These welding headwear is built for comfort under a hood.

The welding cap is made with a smooth round crown, so you don’t have seams pressing into your head under a helmet.

The Hair Bag® places the long hair in the pocket below the helmet line, helping eliminate the pressure point that often occurs when long hair is tucked inside a traditional welding cap.

Will the headwear stay in place while I work?

Yes. When properly sized, the headwear stays comfortably in place while welding, bending, reaching, and working throughout the day.

Are these made in cotton?

Welding Caps are handcrafted in breathable cotton fabrics, with Nomex® options available for flame-resistant protection.

Hair Bag® styles are also available in cotton and Nomex® for welding. Because Hair Bag® headwear is available in a variety of fabrics, always choose a cotton or Nomex® version for welding or other hot work.

How do I care for my headwear?

The headwear can be machine washed cold and air dried or tumble dried on low. You can iron on low as desired.
