Welcome to another peek “Behind the Seams!” This time, I’m sharing how a favorite macaw print from my boonie hat inspired a brand-new ivy flat cap — a Folies creation made with a custom-scaled design by fabric artist Ronya Lake and printed through Spoonflower.
Inspiration Behind the Macaw Ivy Flat Cap
This ivy flat cap was well worth the wait! I’ve always loved the bright birds on my boonie macaw hat, but those birds were simply too large in scale to work well for an ivy style.
Thanks to the talented fabric artist Ronya Lake Designs and the custom printing capabilities of Spoonflower, I was able to have the same macaw design scaled down perfectly for this new piece. The smaller scale turned out just right — capturing all the color, life, and joy of the original print in a way that fits this classic ivy flat cap beautifully.
Creating a Piece That Feels Just Right
I just got it completed, and it looks fun and fabulous!
Creating a piece for myself reminded me how satisfying it is to make something that fits just the way it should — comfortable, personal, and joyful. That’s the heart of what I strive for in every hat, cap, and do rag I design.
